Here is an idea I like to do, but don't use it like a rubber band, if it is to long, twist it in your hands before putting it on the curtain. I like to use it on my Fabric shower curtain, to bring in the light from the bathtub windows.
If you have a chain necklace broken or not, that you want to use instead, us a fancy pin to hold both ends together. If there is extra chain just hang it down for a bolo tie effect....
